Course Director: Henri Colt

Purpose:
To train physicians in the indications and techniques of Rigid Thoracoscopy and Fled-rigid Pleuroscopy:

  • Select appropriate patients for Rigid Thoracoscopy and Fled-rigid Pleuroscopy
  • Describe and become familiar with techniques of Rigid Thoracoscopy, Fled-rigid Pleuroscopy, Chest Tube Insertion, and Talc Pleurodesis
  • The participant must become familiar with and recognize pleural and pulmonary anatomy and anatomy of the chest wall, as well as radiographic correlations

Objectives:
Upon completion of the course the participant should be able to:

  • Know when and how thoracoscopy and pleuroscopy should be used and in which patients it is most indicated for diagnostic and theraputic purposes
  • Describe indications, contraindications, and techniques of each of these procedures
  • Become familiar with pleural anatomy based on pleuroscopic and radiographic imaging

Accreditation:
The University of California, Irvine, is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Target Audience:
Board-Eligible/Certified Pulmonologists, General and Cardiothoracic Surgeons from the United States and around the world, Trainees in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and Surgery.

Hands-on exposure to:

  • Thoracoscopy
  • Flex-rigid Pleuroscopy
  • Chest Tube Insertion and Suturing Techniques
  • Risk Management and Procedure Related Complications

Course Fee: $750.00
Includes all didactic sessions and workshops, course materials, 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 1 reception dinner. (10% discount for Fellows or Residents currently in a certified training program.)

Designation Statement: UCI designates this educational activity for a maximum of 12.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
